Well, your out of luck, despite the hope for over the counter sleeping pills, they are not effective in sleep apnea therapy. Sleep apnea is know by interrupted breathing marked with multiple night-time arousals, reducing oxygen and increase leves of carbon dioxide in the blood, the brain alerts the body to survival mode to resume breathing or cause arousal. Continuous arousal due to oxygen starvation prevent a fully funded sleep night.
Sleeping pills to rest better should be thought as a temporary solution. Many people use alcohol as a sedative to help sleep, unknowing that alcohol reduces you deep sleep cycle, that the most important for sleep restoration.

For the people who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a device such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), treatment can improve alertness, yet CPAP can be difficult to use. Long-term complications such as heart attacks and strokes caused by obstructive sleep apnea can be prevented by a CPAP machine.
We as people generally find the quick fix and cost effective solution for our problems, many times these fixes only fixate to solve the problem and not the cause. Health is a serious issue, take the time and precautions towards a better lifestyle, you will notice that many health issues are related eating habits and lifestyle. Sleeping pills to treat insomnia or sleep apnea should only be taken as a temporary solution.
