Article describes the infant sleep apnea, defining the types of children sleep disorder and infant sleep problems.

If you have a new infant, you’re probably painfully aware that their sleeping habits are different from an adult’s. They need to sleep significantly more than you (often as much as 16 hours a day), but they don’t sleep the same hours you do and they have to wake up many times in the middle of the night. This behavior is normal, but some babies can develop children sleep disorders that can be very serious. Humans of all ages need sleep to grow and regenerate, and babies especially need their sleep to do this.

Infant Sleep Problems:

If your baby is waking up excessively often, you might want to consider that another problem is at work. Here are some issues to consider that you might even want to talk to the baby’s doctor about:

Colic

Allergies to food or formula

Airborne allergens

Separation anxiety

Pain caused by teething, gas, ear aches, or another health issue

Discomfort caused by pajamas or blankets, or heat, cold, thirst, etc.

Pinworms

Urinary track infection

Gasto-esophageal reflux

Habit

If none of these options apply and your infant is still having excessive difficulty sleeping, it may be caused by a sleeping disorder that is more serious. Sleep apnea, for example, is when breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. Sleep labs have found babies that stop breathing for about 20 seconds when suffering from sleep apnea. This can cause a baby to gasp, gag, or even turn blue.

There are three different types sleep disorder:

Central Sleep Apnea: this happens when the brain doesn’t signal the muscles to tell them to breath. This is the most common apnea in babies.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea: this happens when blockage occurs in the breathing pathways.

Mixed Sleep Apnea: this is a mixture between the two other types.

No one is completely sure what causes children sleep disorder, but it’s most likely that the central nervous system causes the problem because it is immature. There are many other possibilities, such as problems with the heart or blood vessels, birth defects, infections, bleeding in the brain, respiratory disease, gastrointestinal problems, chemical imbalances, and exposure to drugs or poisons.

Periodic breathing, on the other hand, is normal for infants under 6 months of age. A child might breathe quickly for a short period, then stop breathing for about 15 seconds, then resume breathing normally. Doctors can tell whether a baby has sleep apnea or periodic breathing by measuring the oxygen in the baby’s blood, monitoring the breathing and heart rate, and possibly taking an X-ray. A doctor can even take a polysomnogram, which monitors different aspects of the baby’s sleep.

It’s very important that a parent recognizes the signs of children sleep disorder in infants and takes care of serious disorders right away. Infant sleep apnea, for example, can be fatal if an infant’s oxygen levels or its heart rate gets too low. Even if an infant survives a severe episode of sleep apnea, one apparent life-threatening event (also referred to as ALTE) has been found to cause long-term complications and increases the risk of unexpected death. Luckily, sleep apnea is treatable, so if you’re concerned about how your baby is breathing during the night, do not hesitate to talk to your doctor.

Sleep disorders affect millions of people around the world every year. In the past, such disorders were usually associated with old age, as old people used to suffer from this problem predominantly. Now, however, things have changed a lot, luckily there is a sleep disorder treatment for most cases to cure.

First, thanks to our insanely fast paced lifestyle, even young people suffer from this problem and do not get adequate sleep. In order to understand the seriousness of this problem, you need to first understand how important sleep is for your body.

Let me make something perfectly clear – sleep is very, very important for your body. Your body needs rest. When you sleep at night, your body repairs itself and prepares you for the hustle and bustle of the next day. If you do not sleep peacefully at night, you will feel the effects immediately the next day.

You will feel tired, woozy, and find it difficult to concentrate on things. These are just short term effects. When left untreated for a long time, sleep problems could lead to high blood pressure, stroke, depression, and heart diseases. So, finding the cause of the problem and getting the right kind of treatment is of supreme importance.

In order to treat this problem the right way, you need to first find out what kind of problem it is and what caused it. There are different types of sleep disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, rapid eye movement behavior disorder, sleep paralysis, sleep walking, circadian rhythm disorders, and night terror.

If you have trouble sleeping at night, you could be suffering from any of these problems depending on your lifestyle, age, physical condition, and other factors. So, you should first consult a good physician to find out what kind of disorder you are suffering from.

Once you know what your problem is, it becomes easier for you to choose the right kind of treatment. For sleep related disorders, you can find a number of different cures on the market today. There are both non surgical and surgical cures available for sleep related problems. Non surgical cures include oral appliances and positive airway pressure devices and medications. Surgical cures include tonsillectomy, septoplasty, turbinate surgery, and other surgeries depending on your problem.

There are natural cures for insomnia available for these problems as well. This mostly involves taking medicinal herbs and making some lifestyle changes to promote healthy sleep patterns. Since natural cures for insomnia related problems do not involve prescription sleep aids and are generally very safe for health, a lot of people are interested in them these days.

Apart from these cures, sound tracks that promote good sleep are also extremely popular these days. These sound tracks are capable of promoting healthy sleep patterns in people who have trouble sleeping at night. They stimulate the brain waves and help you sleep peacefully. If you listen to these tracks regularly for a few months, your brain gets used to it and starts making electric signals conducive for sleep automatically. So, this is considered a very effective treatment by many.

If I were to sum up this article in one sentence, this would be it – sleep is very important for your body and you should take it very seriously. If you suffer from sleep disorders, make sure you find the correct sleep disorder treatment for you and treat it immediately. A good night’s sleep will go a long way in keeping you hale and hearty.

In return, insomnia sleeping disorder is on the rise and sleep medication tend to be the cure all crutch to have

Sleep deprivation is a very common problem which affects a large number of people these days. A lot of people find it hard to sleep peacefully due to various reasons. This weakens them and affects their performance during the daytime. This could also lead to a number of health problems in the long run. So, if you have trouble falling asleep at night, you need to do something about it sooner than later.

Your body needs rest in the form of sleep. You need to sleep for at least six to eight hours every day in order to remain healthy and active. If you do not get a good night’s sleep, you feel nothing short of awful. The next day, you feel dull, inactive, and sleepy.

Also, your ability to react quickly reduces considerably and you will find it hard to concentrate on anything for a long time. Needless to say, it brings down your productivity at work considerably. When this problem is left untreated, it has a lot of long term effects including depression, irritability, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

There are a number of causes of sleep deprivation. So, you should first find out the cause and then choose an appropriate treatment method. The most common causes include:

Insomnia Sleep disorders

If you suffer from some kind of a sleep disorder, you will find it very hard to catch a good night’s sleep. Some of the common sleep disorders that affect people include insomnia, sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder, night terror, sleepwalking, and rapid eye movement behavior disorder.

People suffering from these problems will either find it hard to sleep at night or will have frequent breaks in their sleep. If this is the cause, it should be treated properly by using oral appliances or by taking the right kind of medications.

Sleep Deprivation Lifestyle

Do you work long hours? Do you consume a lot of coffee? Do you consume alcohol at bed time? Do you feel stressed due to your hectic work schedule? Do you watch TV late at night? If you said yes to these questions, you do not have to search for the cause of your sleeping problems – your lifestyle is the culprit.

You need to make suitable changes in your lifestyle to reduce the effects of your sleeping problems. Avoid drinking alcohol or coffee at night. Exercise regularly. Avoid watching too much TV at night. Eat your dinner at least three hours before you go to bed. Listen to sound tracks that are specifically designed to induce sleep. These are small changes that can have a considerable effect and help you sleep well.

Sleep Medications

Effects of Sleep deprivation could be one caused by certain medications. Make a note of all the sleep medications you take and consult your physician. He will be able to help you.

Whatever the cause may be, sleeplessness is a problem that requires your immediate attention. If you do not take it seriously, the long term effects could be bad. It could even lead to hypertension, stroke, and heart disease in the long run. So, make sure you sleep well and stay healthy for a long time.

How the seasons changes your internal clock.

Notice the weather change, during the season we change with the times, literally. Shortened daylight hours changes our natural body clock or Circadian Rhythm, which influences excessive sleepiness or hunger. Also the decreased serotonin from the brain effects the moods as well, so the idea in the winter months is to brighten things up. Turn light on earlier and leave them on longer at night. Having lighter colors around the house help too.
