Have you every tried to go to sleep but could not fall asleep? Why not stop trying? Many people will try to fall asleep but end up tossing and turning. This is refered to as “performance anxiety.” Just trying and not able to fall asleep brings on anxiety. Paradoxical intention is where you don’t try to fall asleep but try to stay awake. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine suggest mediation sleep as probably but not definitely an effective treatment for getting a good nite sleep.
So, in the end the quest is three fold. You do not have to worry about getting to sleep, you cannot force yourself to fall asleep, and fall asleep effortlessly with out stress and get quality sleep.
